Responsibilities
- Greet and engage patients with respect and a smile
- Ensure patients are well informed and comfortable — before, during, and after their appointment — about their treatment and oral health
- Take and process dental radiographs, impressions, and intraoral photos
- Prepare and sterilize the treatment room and equipment
- Provide chair-side assistance to providers during treatment procedures
- Document orthodontic care services by charting in patients' records
- Assist the orthodontist in assessing a patient's teeth and implementing a plan to straighten them
- Perform routine orthodontic duties, including cleaning and adjusting orthodontic gear
- Maintain a clean, sterile, and patient-centric working environment
- Maintain strict compliance with State, Federal, and other regulations (e.g., OSHA, WC, Dental Board, HIPAA, ADA, DOL, Employee Handbook)
Requirements
- Six (6) or more months of practical experience as an orthodontic assistant
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Completion of a CODA-accredited dental assisting program (preferred)
- Quick learner with problem-solving skills
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Technical and troubleshooting skills for software applications used for charting, patient records, scheduling, etc.
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency in fitting bands and brackets, tying in arch wires, and taking consistent, accurate impressions
- Desire and ability to learn new skills and be a team player
- Commitment to being punctual and reporting to work on time
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the desire for professional growth
- Organized, with a superior knowledge of dentistry and dental terminology
